The global cell manufacturing capacity grew by 81% from 2007 to 2008 to reach a capacity of 8.8 GW and further to 10 GW in 2009. The Indian cell manufacturing capacity is ~500 MW with few big players like Tata BP Solar (84 MW), Moser Baer (80 MW crystalline & 40 MW thin film), Indo Solar (160 MW), dominating the market. Both Tata BP and Moser Baer have domestic module manufacturing facilities which utilise part of the cell production while the balance is exported.
