RBI extends Basel III implementation
The Reserve Bank of India has extended the date for implementation of Basel III, the global capital norms for banks, by three months to April 1. The Reserve Bank of India has rescheduled the start date for implementation of Basel III to April 1, 2013 from January 1, 2013. The RBI, however, did not provide reasons behind the rescheduling.
The move will provide additional time to some banks that need to enhance their capital base in line with the new norms for strengthening the resilience of

Curse of Coal for Indian Power Sector
India has a total installed capacity of 209,276 megawatt, with states contributing 41 percent, the central power utilities having a share of 30 percent and the remaining 29 percent accounted for by the private sector.
In terms of fuel used, the total thermal capacity is 140,206 megawatt, of which coal accounts for 120,103 megawatt, gas for 18,903 megawatt, and oil for 1,199 megawatt. This apart, hydro power contributes 39,291 megawatt, nuclear around 4,780 megawatt and reneable energy 24,998

Competitive bidding for wind power
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) wants to make procurement of electricity from renewable sources also through competitive bidding process, just as in the case of conventional power. MNRE has come up with guidelines and standard bidding documents for tariff-based competitive bidding process for grid connected renewable energy power projects and has recommended them to the Ministry of Power for notification.

Fresnel mirror technology
The ‘Fresnel mirror’ type of CSP system is broadly similar to parabolic trough systems but instead of using trough-shaped mirrors that track the sun, it uses long flat mirrors at different angles that have the effect of focusing sunlight on one or more pipes containing heat-collecting fluid which are mounted above the mirrors. The mirrors change their orientation throughout the day so that sunlight is always concentrated on the heat-collecting pipe.

SOLAR THERMAL TECHNOLOGY
Solar thermal generation systems collect solar energy as heat to raise steam for use like a conventional thermal electricity generating plant (steam turbines). Low grade solar heat is used for water heating and, less commonly for air/space heating, solar ponds and solar chimneys. However, it is high temperature solar systems that are most prospective for large scale power generation. Solar thermal technology includes technological approaches for both localized uses and dispatchable uses.
